You Don't Have to Be a Super Model to Accept Your Body

So many people look into the mirror and frown at their reflection.

We are inundated with images of perfectly toned bodies in the media. We have an unrealistic and unattainable view of how we should look, leaving us with low levels of confidence and sometimes even self-hatred.

Wouldn’t it be nice to let all of that go and accept your body?

Read on to hear about a few ways to accept your body so you can attain peace and happiness.

Send yourself positive affirmations.

I am beautiful just the way I am.

I am enough.

I am worthwhile.

My body deserves love and respect.

My weight does not define me.

I am allowed to take up space in the world.

Thank you, body, for being strong for me.

Pick a space in your room to sit down, get comfortable, close your eyes, and send yourself loving affirmations. You can say them to yourself or aloud.

Declaring your love and acceptance for you body is the first step to changing your mindset.

If you have an Instagram, swap out the accounts of models and celebrities with body positivity stars. We see enough distorted images in the media as it is.

On your own Instagram, choose to follow women who love themselves wholeheartedly. This may inspire you to do the same.

They talk about their struggles with weight and self-image and their journeys toward love and acceptance. They’re relatable and truly inspirational!

Thank your body for all it does for you.

You have strong legs that take you far distances. Your body has suffered when you forgot to slather it in sunscreen, shaved off its protective hairs, left it dirty and sweaty for too long, and didn’t feed it when it was hungry.

Apologize to your body. Write a thank you letter to your body to show how much you appreciate it!

Show off your body’s strength. Get into yoga poses, lift weights, or go for a long run.

Your body is so strong and resilient.

When you exercise, you’re proving that you possess strength, power, and endurance. You will begin to accept and love your body when you think of it as strong and capable.

Stop counting calories and lose the scale!

Instead of obsessing about how many calories you have consumed that day and weighing yourself every single morning, try something else.

Do these behaviors leave you feeling happy or defeated? Don’t define yourself by your weight or how much you have eaten today. You’re so much more than a number!

Loving your body means fueling it with nutritious meals, exercising, and not depriving it. Inquire about what would be best for your body.

What does my body need? What is the most loving thing I can do for my body today?

Sometimes the answer might be indulging in some dark chocolate with your friends.

Other times, it’s eating a balanced and nutritious meal. Please don’t ignore your body’s hunger signals. Be kind to your body.

----------

When you have a loving and accepting attitude toward your body, you will feel happier.

When you chant affirmations, write your body a letter of appreciation, follow body positive warriors, and ditch the scale, you will want to exercise and nourish your body in healthy ways.

Life is too short to be in a constant battle against your body.

You have the power to be able to look into the mirror and like what you see.

I hope my suggestions help you become more comfortable in your skin and find peace of mind.
